Rollei retro 80s & RXP 25 experience

Hello,

I use the first one a lot now and will start some tests with the RPX soon, but I was curious to see your experience with these films. How do you like and use them? With what developer?

I quite like the retro 80s, I love the tones it gives me. The only con is the blacks that crush very fastly. I started to use it with Rodinal but wasn't fan of the texture I had.
Then I made some test with perceptol. And I love the results. It was difficult at first because I couldn't find any processing time online as it seems to be a very unusual combination. But finally I processed it in stock perceptol for 14 min, 30 sec first agitation and then 5 sec every minute. It was contrasty and I guess the best would be to rate the film at 64 or 50 and process for a slightly shorter time, but the negatives were beautiful. Very sharp, with great texture and the resolution was HUGE. I might try to process it with perceptol 1:3 but I'm kind of lazy to make the test right now because the processing time would be very long... Also have to mention that I really like perceptol with all kind of films, I loved it with the Kodak Plus-x, tri-x...

Do you have a different experience with this film? And RPX 25?

I love RR80s and superpan 200/RR400s. I do 80s in pryo MC/hd and buetler depending on the scene. pyro-hd for 13.5 min 1:1:100 and beutler 1+1+8 for 8 min

I am a big fan of the RPX25. I run it in Rodinal 1:25, and I am also a Perceptol user like you. Has a very Plus-X in Microdot-X look to it.

I quickly tried to see some pictures on flicker with the words "pyro" and "retro 80s" and only found some pictures by a certain John in California Nice pics! This combination seems very clear and sharp.

I will definitely try it, I loved to develop Plus-x in Microdol-X... I have seen great results with RPX 25 in Rodinal and D76 as well

I love the tones/ gradation from both of these films. The RPX 25 seems to have much better quality control versus the 80S with regard to emulsion issues/ cleanliness in my experience thus far. I have yet - after about 20 rolls of 120 using different batches sourced from different places (new and old style backing paper) - seen a clean roll of 80S when scrutinized at very high magnification (4000ppi scan). It's very aggravating as otherwise I like the film quite a bit. I don't have this issue at all with the RPX 25. My only issue with both is dealing with the curl from the archival polyester base. With regard to processing, my best results have been with Xtol 1:1 for 8 minutes with RPX 25 (I seem to gain some film speed with the Xtol) and HC-110 dilution H for 12 minutes with the 80S.

I also had this problem with some rolls, but mostly it was clear. But you're right, it's an issue.
I have to test RPX 25 in Xtol, but from the few pictures I have seen, it looks beautiful. 80s in Xtol 1:1 looks great as well.

That was nearly my only combination for many years.

Plus-x was my favorite film at the time. And for developers, I almost only use perceptol (now that Microdol is gone) and Xtol
