Now that this film has been out for a bit, I'm wondering what others on here think of it? I just ordered a couple rolls along with some Efke 25 from Freestyle to try out. I have had some use of the old APX 25 film, but I didn't use it much back when. Im more used to Efke 25 and Panatomic X really. I forgot to order some Rollei in 35mm, so I won't be able to film scan it to see how fine grain it is. Also does anyone have a ballpark time for Rollei 25 in Xtol straight? I will be shooting at rated speed in daylight.

Here is a sample I shot at 50, reversed by dr5, and scanned on an Imacon 949. The second image is a 1:1 crop @5000dpi.

I have exposed and developed about 30 rolls of Pan 25 in 120 format with good results. DD-X for 8 minutes at 68 degrees. It does not compare well to Efke 25 due to the high silver content in Efke. Pan 25 has visable grain, so Efke is my preferred film now.

Can you show us some examples between PAN25 and Efke 25.

Did you expose your PAN25 on E.I. 25 developed in DD-X? We found out that in RHS/AM74 the film is closer to E.I.40. So in DD-X I am expecting more or less the same.

Best regards,

Robert

I'm also a bit surprised that so little has been posted regarding others' experience with this film. I've tried it in 120 rolls and I have been pleased with the results. Tried Rollei high speed developer and Ilford ID-11, but it was best in Rollei low speed developer. When diluted 52 ml into 450 ml total volume, the results were very sharp and with a long tonal scale. Overall appearance was pleasantly like the old-style single-layer emulsions. Slightly bigger grain than Ilford Pan-F plus but more latitude. EI not much more than 12 with this developer combination. I'm intending to try more of this film!

I photographed exactly the same scene,a yacht marina,on 35mm Rollei Pan 25 that I previously photographed on the former Maco UP 25,which has been said to be te same as Efke 25.I exposed at EI 12 and developed both in Neofin Blue 7-8m 68F.
On 11x enlargements I could not see any difference beween them.Very fine grain, finer than T-max 100,and with both I needed a loupe to read the boat names on the prints.
I have had the occasional frame of 35mm Efke 25 with a defect but have not used enough of the Rollei Pan 25 to say if it is any better in this respect.
Hard to choose between the two.

Robert,

Sorry the delay. This is my first attempt at posting images in a forum response, so forgive me if they don't show up at first.

The bollard, or cleat, is Pan 25 at EI 25, the absolutely wonderful child is Efke 25 at EI 25. The Pan 25 had to be coaxed to an acceptable density, so I assume I'm underexposing the Rollei. Both in DD-X at 68 degrees, the Pan 25 takes 9 minutes, while the Efke takes 10. I love the Efke for my purposes.

Sorry the comparison is of different subjects. I'll try to shoot a single subject soon and post.

Very interesting.

We have tested Efke25/UP25 as well in a Beutler recept, in our case AM50, which is almost Tetenal Blau/Blue compatible which is one of the best combinations for this film even just better than Rodinal 1+100.

I would like to do the same test for PAN25 in this developer but overhere the temperature has rised to C41 level so bad for a reproducible B&W test with the densitometer.
Enlargements 11X and 14X or even more for 35mm is possible for these films if using a high resolution lens (e.g. Leica/Zeiss) due to the fact these films are going over 150 ln/mm and a high quality enlarging lens (Rodenstock/Schneider).

A collegue in Finland is doing the same test and he has also a nice Nikon ED4000 scanner.
Thanks for sharing this information so far.

If you hate grain but enjoy 35mm convenience - heureka! Looks like an interesting film.
