Just went to order some and macodirect is replacing it with Efke 25?
Have I missed something somewhere?

Rollei Pan 25 is NOT Efke 25, they are very different films. Rollei Pan 25 is an updated orwo np15 emulsion, it is the same as Adox Pan 25.

This was common belief but Maco state at their site that they feel free to send instead of the Rollei Pan 25 in 35mm the Efke KB25 as that Rollei film would be structurally identical to the Efke KB25.

Another statement by Maco suggest that they actually let running out the Rollei Pan 25 Range.

35mm films may be replaced by the Efke 25 (no hint at being identical here) but type 120 would still be on stock.

Thanks AgX for the information, it's hard to get it straight in these days of confusing advertising. All it took for me to email Freestyle was a change in packaging, regarding volume, on their website. If I were a man of wealth I'd buy a refrigeration company and stock up heavily in the products I now enjoy. Wishful thinking in an emotional state.

Correct.

But the difference of Rollei Pan 25 and Efke 25 is not very big.

It seems to be that Maco/Rollei will not produce this Pan 25 film anymore (Filmotec is the original manufacturer) due to their Retro 80S film (iso 50-80) which gives even better specifications.

Available are 16.000 120 roll films Pan 25, estimated for end 2011 delivery.

So the choice in 35mm is Retro 80S or Efke 25. Most Rollei-Maco distributors have still the Pan 25 in 35mm and 120 roll film on stock.

Best regards,

Robert

Aah, this crazy rebranding of almost-dead trade names (Rollei) and sticking old crap (Efke) in new boxes ... never liked this shady business. Bunch o' pirates all, I say!

change in availability does incline me towards concentrating on ILFORD and Kodak products.

All manufacturers have somewhere their minimum quotation, but Ilford just was clear even about their Pan F+ film. So talking about consistent delivery for the next 10 years my guess would be FP4+ unless very unexpected things would happen.

I don't know Pan 25, but I know Efke25=Adox CHS 25 and Orwo NP15. This are quite different films.
NP 15 is of rather hard gradation, but has a halo protection layer made from a dye.
CHS 25 ist a sweet tempered film of normal gradation with no built in "extras".

I guess I am going to have to try the 80s and the Efke, just as I was getting into the swing of the Pan 25!
