I have the chance to buy a Rollei Hy6 hybrid at a reasonable price? But does Rollei still exist ? Who is going to do repair and service this high tech camera ?
I live in Belgium.

At the moment the rumours about Franke & Heidecke are utmost negative. More news are expected this week.

But there are already Rollei-licenced service people around.

Hy6

Buy it, don't worry about repairs. It's a excellent camera with excellent lenses! Repair service will be available, at least in Germany.

Cheers:wink:

Leaf, one of the participants/contractors, is leaving the fold, moving to 'dissolve' into Phase One.

Electronics were never a strong point for Rollei. Getting parts and a service tech that knows how to do repairs is going to be hard in the future. Seems very risky to me unless you are getting this camera at a bargain basement price.

even with a "bargain basement price, i'd still pass on it. if you want a 6x6 camera, get a hasselblad 503cw or a 553/555 elx/eld. you can get a motor winder for the 503 as well, even the most current v-series zeiss glass, which is just as good as the glass they are putting in the current line-up of cameras from sinar/leaf. a photographer i assist for has the hy6 with the whole set of lenses for it with a sinar D/B. he's selling it to revert back to hasselblad v-series with the newer phase p65+.

albeit, the sound of the mirror box in th hy6/AFi is to die for! ka-(insert hocking up a loogie noise here ) and the grip is like soft butter in your hand. i've never held a camera that is so comfortable, and i probably never will again!

but if i were you, i'd think long and hard about this one. there are millions of v-series cameras out there, and millions of lenses for it. not autofocus, but much cheaper in the long run. and just as good of quality (i'm referring to the cfi,cfe series lenses here)

just my 2 cents

That is kind of sad, but with the prices on their gear I can truly understand. Hard to get by when you are selling only a few cameras, need to sell hundreds of thousands to get by anymore.

The Sinar Hy6 is supported by Sinar and there is a lot of commonality with the Rolliflex Hy6. Similar applies to the Leaf AFi. We support those common elements. I am collating information for ongoing support and will advise any hy6/Afi users directly if they register with our information page

This also lists all lens and accessories.

Electronics were never a strong point for Rollei.

That statement is utter nonsense! Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Rollei has been one of the greatest electronic innovators from the beginning. Time and again Rollei has broken new ground in concept, design, and implementation. If they have a fault it is in management and obviously from your statement, public awareness, and communication with the followers and true believers of marketing hype.
