I have a few E36 flash chargers (its the one for the 'potato masher' flash if you are not familiar with the numbers).
One went bad today. A little inspection shows that there is a thermal cutoff component that is open circuit.
Mine had a "Microtemp" 4191A which I believe is a 91 degree Centigrade cutoff. These one-shot items. So it needs to be replaced if it ever over heats.
Here is the PDF (http://search.alkon.net/cgi-bin/pdf.pl?pdfname=03175.pdf)
So....if your E36 charger is not working, check inside to see if the Microtemp TCO has gone into open circuit.
If the Microtemp brand component is difficult to find I think this competitor from Mouser.com will work: Dead Link Removed
