So here's a weird one, I just searched for 'Phenisol ATP' and got 0 hits, not even something wildly off topic, nada.
Anyway, backtrack a bit, and I'll explain how I got here.
Browsing the Ilford website, as I so often do when I'm bored, I read on the Kodak<->Ilford equivalency charts that Phenisol is an equivalent of Technidol.
Technidol is what was used to process Tech Pan, both are now discontinued.
Although not a direct replacement, Rollei ATP1.1 is a close match for what once was Tech Pan, and I have a fair few rolls in my freezer. I had it developed at a lab once, and got what can only be called a 'true black & white' photo, as in, no greys in between, contrast to the max. I've left the rest of the rolls in the freezer, intending to 'one day' shoot them and dev in 1:300 rodinal stand for lack of a better idea.
Back to the Technidol. Quoth the Tech Pan datasheet: "These films produce high-quality pictorial negatives when
processed in KODAK TECHNIDOL Liquid Developer. Conventional developers generally produce contrast too high for normal pictorial photography." Well, that was certainly my experience with the ATP1.1 in whatever my lab used at the time (possibly TMAX dev).
So, the roundabout way to my question has arrived: What happens if I put ATP1.1 in Phenisol? Has anyone here ever done it? Is Phenisol really a Technidol-equivalent in that it will produce a nice continuous tone with tech-pan-esque films? Or is it just an equivalent in a "they're both scientific developers" kind of way? It's not the kind of thing that's readily available around here, so it's not something I can just buy a bottle and see how it goes, although if someone says "yes, I use it and it's great!" then I'll find a way to get some.
