Hello all,

I recently purchased a Rollei 6008i and, separately, a Magazin 6000 for it. After loading the first test roll and pressing the shutter release, the film sounded like it was advancing, then it stopped and the back of the magazine read "12". I thought it was supposed to read "1" when it's at the start of the roll, so that was question number one. Since then, I believe after one exposure it did a bunch of winding and signaled that the roll was finished. Not knowing why it would have done that after only one shot, I've pressed the shutter release quite a few times since then, and all that happens now is the motor activates as thought it's advancing one frame, but the frame counter in the magazine continues to show "12".

What's going on with this camera/back combo? I'd like to try to figure it out before sacrificing another roll of film to more unsuccessful tests.

12 means the film is on the last frame. It is normal that the camera would wind up the rest of the roll after that. I will assume you loaded the insert into the camera according to the diagram. And the insert was not an older one, meant for earlier SLX model cameras--those look identical but have the index and other symbols on the inside of the frame rather than the outside. I have had a roll where the camera wound it all up without taking an exposure, but that was just once early on and I attributed it to operator error.

I have disassembled these backs and they are somewhat complicated in the way the sense the film and monitor its successful, intermittent progress. Having mentioned that, maybe in the right hands it can be repaired.

Thanks, folks. This was user error, I think. Despite looking at the manual, I still managed to load it upside down.
