I have a working Rollei 6008AF that is having trouble with a nearly new looking PQ lens I purchased. The camera powers down 75% of the time when I mount the lens. Sometimes it remains functional, but the camera usually appears to power down. The LCD goes black. Occasionally the camera remains on, but an "OFF" symble appears in the LCD and it will not operate. It will often function if I remove the battery and replace it before turning the camera on. These issues do no occur with my other lenses. When it does work, the lens-shutter and aperture function normally. The lens appears essentially unused, and all of the electrical contacts are clean on the camera and lens. I have a healthy battery and everything else appears normal.

My first concern is whether this type of lens is a risk for damaging the camera's PCB boards, and whether I should stop attempting to use the lens. But the lens shutter never fails to operate during the times when the camera cycles, which I suppose is a good sign?

Other than that, any information would be helpful. It seems possible this is a simple connection failure inside of the lens.

Thank you for any suggestions.

I would have the lens examined. I have learned of 6008 lenses with frozen shutter motors that overheat the camera's electronics, causing them to start smoking. Yours is probably not that bad, but could be on the verge. Dave Feely at Key Camera is my Rollei 6008 tech, I would recommend him if you are in the States.

That sounds like good advice. I will contact and likely ship the lens off to him. Thank you for the repair referral.

I got an inexpensive 150mm that I put on my 6008i and it may have fried the aperture circuit of the camera. Not sure, as I won't put the lens on another body and its not worthwhile to have it professionally inspected. After this I actually got a new-to-me 6008i from Pieter and it is still working great.
