I have a question for fellow Rollei 35S owners regarding the shutter.
On my camera, when I select a slow shutter speed (like 1/2s or 1/4s), the exposure seems to end prematurely if I release the shutter button quickly. However, if I press and hold the button down for the full duration, the speed sounds correct.

Could another Rollei 35S owner please test this on their camera? I'm trying to figure out if this is normal behavior for the model or a sign that my camera needs a service.

I have the plain vanilla 35, but the shutter mech is the same. Mine behaves exactly as you describe: the shutter closes when you release the button or at the end of the exposure time, whichever comes first. Not to say that is what it should do, but it seems it might be.

I’ve not found it a problem because tbh I have never used the tripod speeds. (It’s always fun to listen them when there is no film in, though, and that helps to keep the lube distributed around the mechanism 🙂)

I owned one some years ago and yeah, had the same issue. Not sure if it is normal feature or if it is a normal problem. To be honest never investigated since I didn't used those speed much.

This is exactly how a Hasselblad behaves as well — you must hold the shutter button for the duration of the exposure or it will be cut short — so I suspect this is a "feature", not a flaw.

This is the normal behavior of the Rollei 35 shutters. No need to worry.
