Hi all!

Just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with 24mm filters not fitting their Rollei 35 camera as expected?

I’ve purchased two over the past 12 months, a Kood UV and a Hoya red. The first was fairly easy to obtain the second not so much.

I have found, however, that their threads appear to be “short”. ie: the Kood only just screws into the lens (just enough to stay in place,) but the Hoya just keeps rotating - it doesn’t actually tighten. That being said, the red actually fits the UV happily - a match made in filter heaven!

Am I missing something? I was going to get a larger red filter cut to fit the UV (swap out the glass) but when the Hoya came up, thought it would be perfect and much less hassle.

I’m not ultra keen on stacking them, but seems that I’ll have to *if* I want to use the red filter with my B&W work.

Am interested in hearing your thoughts and any possible solutions you may have, that I haven’t already mentioned.

I do not know, I would have to measure the thread or check with samples of my filters.

However the issue as such is not unique: I got a Pentacon/Meyer 135mm model which is designed that way that the telescopic shade when pushed-in still protrudes significantly over the filter thread. Maybe to protect the thread. Anyway, standard filters when screwed-in would only protrude 1mm over the shade, making using them possible but changing them a hassle.

A solution to your issue could be finding a filter with longer male thread. Then taking off its glass and using it as adapter. In principle though then the issue off vignetting might come up.

That's what I am concerned about - never really had any issues stacking on my SLRs, but this may be a different ballgame altogether. No lens hood in use - but it too screws in; now I'm wondering if I might be able to remove the hood from the ring, and screw the filter into it. In essence, extending the thread, but not sure if it will allow for it.

Thanks, AgX - you've got me thinking outside the square; forgot I have a lens hood floating around somewhere. :D

Although I own but seldom use its hood, the lens mount for the Rollei 35 is designed so that no lens hood is necessary. If worried about sun shining on filter, just use the brim of your hat or hand to shade lens. Rollei 35 was designed as a carry everywhere camera, not as a system camera. I never have had a problem with Rollei 35 filters.

I usually don't use a lens hood either - hence it sitting in a box somewhere, already forgotten. :D Like you, I use my hand (don't wear a cap often) and that suffices.

Are your filters any specific brand? I've never had an issue with Hoya in the past on my SLR & MF cameras, but this one definitely won't attach - it just keeps rotating as if it needs that little bit extra thread to tighten properly.

I'm interested too: where i can find compatible filter for rollei 35 (for example red, yellow, orange, pola and so on? )

heliopan.de

Look at their german pricelist.

(Though so far we have not solved the OP's issue, whether the Rollei tread is special.)

I use filters marketed by Rollei. Bought them along with camera the day camera was first offered for sale.
Does anybody remember Minicam, down the street from Willoughbys and next door to Spiratone on what used to be NYC’s camera row?

I found something similar a while back. I had bought a 39mm Pentax filter and it just spun. Finally
got the caliper out & it measured 38.5mm. There's no size indicated on the filter so it may have been made
as a special purpose use.

When I bought my Rollei 35 on the very day first introduced to the NYC market, I bought a Rollei 35;to Leitz e39 filter adapter along with a few Rollei specific filters. I don’t know how easy these adapters are to find 52 yrs later, but I would look for one if I were you.
