On page 54: Sammlung Fotografischer Rezepte (U. Raffay) is also a Rodinal type developer. Raffay is more carefull in the description how to handle and making the developer. Recommended! But only in German language available.
A rodinal type developer can be made using either potassium or sodium hydroxide. A developer made with sodium hydroxide is somewhat softer working. This is due to the higher photographic activity of potassium salts.
Strong acids and bases should always be added to the water rather than the other way around. The recipe in Jack's Specs is wrong in this respect and can result in enough steam being generated to cause a serious splatter. This developer needs to be made using Pyrex glass containers and stirrers rather than plastic. Always wear safety goggles/shield when making this developer.
