I sent an E-Mail or two to A&O in Germany, found some contacts for their US distributer, and subsequently got this note from them regarding Rodinal availability. I replied and encouraged them to join APUG to communicate directly with their target market. I've trimmed and reformatted a bit from the original mail.

Hi Kevin,

We will have a distribution solution for Rodinal available soon.
Our first shipment will be arriving in the US sometime in the
next week. When we have availability, we will post a link on our
website for ordering. Please check our website in the next few
weeks: www.integrawest.com.

Thank you very much for your inquiry.

Best regards,

Gene Peck

cool. I wonder if the Freestyle brick & mortar will have a Harry Potter/X-Box-style midnight madness sale the night of the 26th with a bunch of geeky photogs camped out in a line out the front of their doorstep waiting for the magic elixir to go on sale.

The only bad thing about rodinal is that it doesn't have as firm a head as Guiness.

Or Beamish's...

I'm having a difficult time keeping up my "I'll believe it when I see it" state of mind about all this. What the hell, it's good news even if it's only that :D

No need for that. Just go ahead an order it, like I did a week ago. They suggested putting the order in, and, I assume, first rodinal that goes out goes toward fulfilling pending orders.

I'm assuming that, too. I just hadda shoot off an E-Mail to my matrimonial counterpart at work to figure out what else we were going to order to bring the order up to the $25 minimum. Not hard, since she just got her first 4x5.

Ah, the $25/min order. We should list what things we really don't need, but bought anyway in order to get our Rodinal :D .
For me ? 10 pack of Provia 100F. I have yet to see a 4x5 slide, so I am excited to give it a shot.

Well, I padded my Rodinal order with 4x5 polaroid film and a couple of rolls of 120 Fuji Superia 100.

Monday, I ordered some Gamblin Cold Wax Medium to polish some postcards I hope to work on, and added a sheet of mat board to pad the order, but they called back and wanted $15 oversized shipping for the $11 worth of mat board, so I canceled that order and re-padded the order with various varieties of pencils (also for the postcards) and a drafting brush.

So does anyone know if Freestyle got their Rodinal in stock, and are fulfilling orders?

It seems just like yesterday I was rushing to Calumet to get the "last" bottle of Rodinal.

Very happy to hear this news.

Who is manufacturing this Rodinal? Will it run out after a while or is it here to stay?

German company, A&O. Looks like they're dug in for the long haul. Will it run out? I'm sure only the market knows for sure. Less likely to run out if everyone goes out and buys some, I would think.

When someone gets it in hand, I'm curious to see what the new logo, label, etc. looks like.

See, I went and bought r09 which meant, of course, that Rodinal would show up just as it came in.

A&O have acquired the photo chemicals production plant in Vaihingen from Agfa late last year. They have said that they will make Rodinal and other Agfa chemicals in the future.

pre-A&O Rodinal

In years to come, people will rave about the intangible yet superior qualities of pre-A&O Rodinal. The grain, the unique tonality, the delicate highlights, the almost 3-dimensional images of pre-A&O Rodinal will become legend. Others will dispute it, causing fierce flame wars that lead to multiple ejections from APUG and banishment to photo.net, but this will only solidify the mystique of pre-A&O Rodinal. People will ruthlessly snipe their best friends and mothers on ebay to get hold of pre-A&O Rodinal for $500 or more per bottle. Heads of state will exchange bottles of expensive wine and bottles of pre-A&O Rodinal. People will baptize their children and pets in pre-A&O Rodinal, 1:10000 for 30 seconds with intermittant agitation.

Thank god I have a large supply of pre-A&O Rodinal.
