I'm back into the darkroom after a lengthy break. Any suggestions on a source for Rodinal or an equivalent developer? I'm in Australia. Thanks Michael.

It's raining Rodinal.
Make sure you get Rodinal & not Rodinal Special, they are quite different.

Foto Riesel in Kent St, Sydney had some a few months ago when I was in there too...

I was in Foto Riesel, Sydney yesterday (24 Nov) seeking a 500ml bottle of Rodinal. They had the 125ml bottles but not the 500ml (the 125ml were not on the shelves - had to ask). From memory, the salesman said c. AUD$8 for the 125ml and c.AUD$18 for the 500ml.

Cheers

Call Van-Bar in Sydney - 02 9550 5833 - and ask to speak to Enrico. He is the traditional photography salesperson at Van-Bar. They are due a new shipment of Rodinal, I have 5 - 500ml bottles with my name on them. Price was quoted at around $20 per bottle.

Sorry to resurrect this ancient thread but I'm having trouble finding Rodinal in Australia. Photo resource has the tiny 120ml size that will only do a handful of sheets of 8x10, Vanbar shows the 500ml as out of stock and due back in June - anywhere else that could have it in stock?

I'm not in Australia but Tetenal Paranol-S works well if you can get that as a substitute.

It might be worth looking at HC-110. I don't know if Vanbar's stock is the old version (with legendary keeping qualities) or the new one (simpler water-based formula which is supposed to work the same but probably not last as long).

If you're doing sheets of 8x10 maybe you'd use it up fairly quickly anyway.

Gold street is showing out of stock to.
Any particular reason you want Rodinal?
There are plenty of other developers that are easier to get hold of. I haven't bought any rodinal in years.
I use pyrocat hd and mix my own for sheet film, reasonably economical and does the job.

Parodinal: paracetamol, sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfite. If you're processing 8x10, it might be the most economic option in the long term.

I am not looking for substitutes at this point. I'm currently looking to cut down the variables in my 8x10 process.

Well, one variable is the intermittent availability of your choice developer. When that happened to me, I started mixing my own Pyrocat-HD which I use for nearly everything. I use ID-68 for low light situations. With these two, I have every base covered, and if some importer here at the end of the Earth runs out of something it doesn't affect me.

Well another approach is to stockpile - with a developer that doesn't expire it's easy to stock many years' worth.
