I'm not sure where to get Rodinal just now (I used to get mine from Adorama in NYC), but, you can now get it here: http://www.photoformulary.com/DesktopDefault.aspx.

Or you can get Calbe R09 from J&C (I think). It's supposed to be the actual pre-war version of Rodinal.

Or you can make your own with chemicals from the Formualry. Sodium hydroxide, Red Devil lye, is available at hardware stores and some supermarkets. The formula is available in Anchell's "Darkroom Cookbook" or Anchell & Troops "Film Dev. Cookbook".

Jim,
Thanks for the info. Im hoping that my current supply will last until it becomes available again - as I don't want to have to test another formula; only to switch back. Perhaps I'll shoot out an email....

Thanks again

Check with Brad at The Darkroom Studios in Merchantville, NJ. He's not too far from you (he's near Camden) and he might have some in stock. I was there on Saturday, but I didn't go chemistry shopping, so I can't say for certain. I'm sure he'll ship it if he's got some, but his store is worth the trip! (it's an 80+ mile drive for me, but I try to get there at least once a month)

Brad is an APUG member and advertiser.

Thanks Bob....I sent an email out to A&O to see when and from who Rodinal will be available, and I sent an email to Brad. We'll see what comes up.

Thanks again.

There is plenty available on ebay, though it can get a bit pricey. But we dont know what the new price will be, I doubt it will be as cheap as it was before when it reappears on shelves.

This is something I'd like to know as well. J&C is out of the r09 and I sent an email asking when it would be back in stock but they never replied. I guess I'll just wait and use D-76 in the meantime.

Thats actually a good price

I saw some at Looking Glass Photo in Berkeley, Calif. (www.lookingglassphoto.com). Price seemed kind of high @ $17/500ml bottle.

Jon

That comes out to about the same price that the R09 goes for at JandC when available and is a bargain compared to what agfa rodinal goes for on eBay. You can bet that when the real(as in last formula produced by agfa) is re-introduced to market, it will at least be as expensive as R09 if not more! heck, it might even be twice as much given what it goes for on eBay and that it would appear to have a longer shelf life than the R09(at least thats what I have read here) and is different enough(works better at higher dilutions due to some secret super additive developing agent(reported by Bill Troop in this controversial thread http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=006fc5

Hi All,

The French version of the British MX2 site seems to offer Rodinal for sale online (scroll down to the bottom of the page). Price is Euros 9.80 for 500ml. I don't know if they really have it in stock, as I didn't try to order.

Rodinal supply

check out Photographers Formulary on the web: they have a "mix your own kit" and will be selling their own liquid subsitute later this year as soon as they get the packaging straightened out.

If I am reading their information correctly though, this "mix your own kit" results in a Rodinal without a very long shelf life. It will be interesting to see if their liquid Rodinal when available has the keeping qualities of Agfa Rodinal. One would think it would.

I order my daily dose of Rodinal at www.fotomayr.de . A good starting point for who's living in Europe.
Price per 500ml bottle is the same as last year (< 10 Euro) and they ship very fast.

I am interested in this as well. They say that it is good for 6 months apparently. I'd think that six months is conservative but that's just me..

There is a recipe for Rodinal in the Christmas issue of UK-based Black and White Photography magazine. I can post it if anyone would like to dabble in the alchemy side of things. Just for kicks and grins of course. (Moo-wah-ha-ha-ha) (sinister laugh)

a&o said they will announce a U.S. distributor for Rodinal (and other chemicals) shortly. If they haven't done it by next week, I will give them another phone call and ask specifically for this issue, OK?

That doesn't seem high to me if they had to import it from Germany where it is available now.

It probably isn't too high, but the Agfa stuff I bought last year was around $8.00

That would be most excellent. Please let me know what information you discover...
