name may be usefull

Blazinal may be a usefull name, just weird enough to get folks to take you seriously when you ask for it.

I will see, I was in to Henry's Kanata store, the one with 5 packs of D-76 and three boxes of paper, and asked the nice young lady behind the counter about it. She was fowning about finding it on her computer so I sugested that it was a "Film Developer" moments later she exclaimed "here it is" -- "their is lots in the warehouse, do you want me to order some in for you?"
with some luck, 2 bottles of 500Ml will be in with my name on them shortly. {My fingers and toes are of course crossed} perhaps if the other APUG folks near a Henrrys store also ask, (and pick up when their request comes in) Henrys may decide that it would be worth while to keep the odd bottle around.

Yep, I bought it by the case too, when it's gone I'm calling it Pyrocat-HD, like Kodak is now called Ilford here.

John of J&C (now closed down) is the reason for all the confusion he registered Rodinal as a Trade name in the US, and so no one else vcan now use it. He also tried to pass off Calbe's RO9, the older Orwo fomula as Rodina.

Timothy Leary invented the name Blazinol. <cough> I swear it was only in my youth! <cough>

Hey, I still have one bottle left of the original Agfa Rodinal. Just opened it last week... but... I'm dipping into it 20cc's here, 10cc's there so it's not going to last. I'm ready to make my once in 6 months purchase from Freestyle but I cannot for the life of me find any Blazinol. I can however find Adonal which is made by Adox and they claim it is same formula as Rodinal. Given the fact that the name has been altered and applied to various renditions of chemistry, does anyone have any clue about Adonal? Is that for sure the same thing as Rodinal? I hope so. I cannot find any replacement for my Agfa Rodinal. I rely on this developer for about 1/4 to 1/3 of my film use.

Blazinal is the Canadian version I think - so I would be surprised if you found it in California.

Blazinal? Bilious blistering blue barnacles! What a name! I am laughing my ass off.

I just got off the phone with Vanbar in Cardigan Street, Melbourne.
Gordon said "Anyday now," for *both* Rodinal and Adonol. They've got nothing!
That's what they said 4 months ago when I had to buy a bunch of D76 instead because I can only get into the city so often (I live a ways away). Anyone from Melbourne got ideas?

I was in Vanbar a couple of weeks ago getting some E6 processing done, and thought I would pick up another bottle because my current bottle of R09 is down to 2/3. Anyway, there was neither Rodinal nor R09 in stock and the guy (I think it was Ed) told me that Rodinal and R09 are gone (for good?) but they have Adonal on order and expect it "in a couple of months". Two thirds of a bottle is going to last me longer than that, so I'll have a look next time I'm in there. No good checking their web site which indicates/implies that both R09 and Adonal are in stock.

Adonal is exactly the same product as the last Agfa Rodinal. It's made in the same plant to the same formula. That plant was sold by Agfa to A&O and then by A&O to its current owner. The only difference between recent Rodinal and current Adonal is the label.

Anybody know the formula for modern Rodinal, or is it a trade secret?

The formual is proably still not published. And it has now lost its name.

The factory is now owned by a contract manufacurer, who DOES have the original formula, BUT does not have the righst to AGFA, AGFA PHOTO, or Rodinal to put on their products. SO each distributor has to pick a name.

Blazinal is the Canadian Name.
Dead Link Removed for example

Adonal is the name used by the ADOX.de folks.

In other places it may be sold as something else. And the East German Version is still out there using the pre-WWII formula - Generally that tends to be called Something R09. (but there are exceptions.) The West German stuff generally shows a dilution of 1:25 and 1:50 (1+25 and 1+50 for those that prefer that notation) while the east stuff shows 1+20 and 1+40
