How good is the Rodagon, compared with a Companon-S? Does anyone have information?
Thanks,
Steven

from my personal exp with the 135mm's, the rodagon is minutely sharper @ f11, maybe. I honestly couldn't tell the difference in actual prints and my buddies couldn't tell the difference in the test prints. I did tests with both lenses from 8-16 and 11 was the sharpest with each lens. with that said the lenses may vary from specimen to specimen from what i've been told. i mostly took the rodagon over the componon-s because it's got an illuminated aperture. If your're looking for a 135 componon-s, i've got one for sale w/0 out a retaining ring. make an offer

The same.

You might check the MTF charts at Rodenstock or Schneider for something objective.

.

I have heard one is more contrasty than other (I belive schneider supposed to be contrasty than rodenstock). But, I have both on 80mm and can not see any diference...

Thanks to all. I guess I'm being victimized by the old saw about "getting what you paid for." The Componon-S seems to be more expensive; therefore one assumes its superiority.

I use a g claron 210mm for enlargements of 5x7 negs and a Rodagon 150mm for 4x5 and they are equally sharp. Go with the one that looks best on your enlarger.

Here in Germany the Componon-S retails for much less than the Rodagon. On the used market the newer Rodagons too seem to get a bit of a premium over the Componon-S models. The older Rodagons, however, are very cheap. They are all good: older Rodagon, newer plastic Rodagon, Componon-S etc.
