Hi all,
So I got my postcards ready to go...kinda. I used labels for both the information and the addressee. Do I need to have a vertical line in the middle in order for the post office to accept it? Or can I just slap a stamp on there and it'll go? I vaguely recall someone saying something to the effect of needing that line...

You should be able to just slap a stamp on it, bung it in the mail, and you'll be laughing like a fat spider in the sun.
I'm pretty sure you don't need a line.

I can't see that being a requirement, the fact that it's smaller than a certain size (but maybe not too small) and not in an envelope that makes it a 'postcard'

BTW, I was flat out like a lizard drinking producing my cards the other night...

... and I'll be cheating. My next batch of "postcards" will be commercially printed colour prints, but from an analog film at least.

Hi all,
I've almost printed my 18 postcards.
Reading your posts, I realize that some send them as real postcards, that is without an enveloppe. Mine are on FB paper, which has been flattened but is prone to a lot of curls and scratches. Is it really safe to send it "naked"? It sure is cheaper, but I'm a bit reluctant to do so with lith prints which took me a bit of time to print. How are you feeling about this?

Well, if you'll permit an opinion from a "newbie", I think that "postcard" has particular meaning. I think that a "postcard" is a card mailed without an envelope and that's what I'd like to see, and that's what I'm sending. But.......it's a bit late in this round to start clarifying definitions and it's a hobby for most of us anyway, so......for this round, I think we should cut some slack and send something that resembles a postcard whether in an envelope or not. I'll just be happy to see what other parts of the world send. Next round maybe we could tighten it up a bit?
BTW, I used Ilford "postcard" paper, complete with vertical line and address lines etc. There were several boxes of it in my local "Henrys" photo store.

Unfortunately there have been reports that Ilford have stopped producing their postcard paper but I've never investigated to see if it's true... can't believe everything you read on the Internet! Which means, alternatives may have to be found.

I've received some 'naked' FB postcards and they've made it thru fine. Some have been mounted on card, some have been in envelopes and that's ok with me, however I also like the stamps, postmarks and general wear & tear that the postcard ones get along the way (although I could live without the machine that stamps barcodes on the front sometimes!). So Skander, I think it's up to you to make the judgement about how you send them.

Ole, I need to revamp that page, but a commercial print is fine, as are inkjets... we've never stipulated formats or methods... that can always be discussed.

I'm bummed, for the past two weeks, we have had a subsitute mail person. They just did not deliver any mail to us. what ever there was, has gone off into the ozone. If anyone sent a postcard in the last while that should have been delivered in the past two weeks, if you have spares, can you send me another one?

Yes I was curious about your one Ole. Looks like a multi exposure(?) Bamboo and lilly pads? Nice effect.

Reeds and lily pads, single exposure on MACO IR 820c. The whole thing insisted on printing too soft on VC (Pyrocat-HD developer and condenser head is not ideal for VC), but I thought this crop looked "mysterious" instead of just weak.

I'll be printing this coming Saturday night. I've been given the rare opportunity of access to some Gennert's Amidol, so I'm looking forward to this printing session.

I have a new negative which proofed well as a straight print, so it gets the nod. It's also from the monastery (same subject, different view, different day). I hope to get them in the mail early next week. I'm not going to make the mistake this time of dry mounting them to postcards. These will be dry mounted on note cards and mailed in envelopes.

Bighead, to join the next round (we do 'rounds' where you send a card to all participants, which was 18 this round, 21 previous round I think) you send me (via PM or email) your snail mail address (incl name!) and an email address I can contact you on. I'll email you to keep you in the loop of whats happening when. You can send comments to the card makers, but it's not a requirement... you can just view and admire

Thanks, John. I'm actually disappointed with that print. The subject itself looks flat, and I've got that annoying shadow from printing. I have several other shots from a similar spot which would have looked better - oh well. Next time I'll try to spend a bit more time selecting and printing.

I'm really sorry if you don't get one from me. I'll try to reprint some more later but, as I use an inkjet and my printer is in for service, I'm not sure I'll be able to do that anytime soon.

I'll be sure to use a different paper, labeling system, or both next time..

You can resort to using the old fashioned analog method of a pen or even a pencil to address the postcards. Some I have from 2 years ago are not showing any adverse side effects of these luddite addressing methods.
