A few years ago I shot a 400iso TMAX at 1600 and forgot about it. "ALWAYS MARK THE FILM" I make bands in the leader . But this particular camera rewinded in the cassette and I forgot.
Not only that but I criminally underdeveloped.
I am doing the scans now and I am shocked how much detail and sharpness is preserved compared to pretty much every other film.
The one pleasant effect is no overblown highlights...
Nothing beats my XX5222 Xtol 1:1 for my test but every time I see how much detail and how much room for error Tmax has I start to miss it.

Yes, Tmax 400 and Xtol go together really fine. I use it replenished and the results are excellent ( technically !!! ) . But why do you miss it ? It is still available even if it is uncomfortably expensive today.

I wish Kodak bulk prices were reasonable.
I have bulk tmax 100
Hp5
And 340 feet of XX which is my favorite film.

With a push of 1 stop to 800 Kodak does not recommend an increase in development, at 1600 Kodak recommends a 2 stop push, but I've found that a 1 to 1 1/2 push works really, at 2 stop highlight can become blown. Over the years I've used many different developers, XTOL is not my go to, but in D76, Clayton F76+, MCM 100, even DK50 Tmax 400 works really well. I shoot Tmax 400 and 100 when traveling.
