Reusing disposable underwater film camera.

I just returned from my local grocery store with 2 Fujifilm Quicksnap Extreme disposable cameras. The check out girl was marking them down to $5.00 each so I thought "What the heck,now I can shoot in the rain without worry". Plus it looked kind of cool with it's purple knobs.
Has anyone reused these cameras? It seems like such a waste to have it fired into the trash when I bring it in for processing.
I couldn't find any info in the fourms or on the net.

Once you break the case to retrive the film, the water resistant nature of the case is normally destroyed, we tried it at the store that I worked in and ended up with snow melting on the case and contaminating the inside of the camera.

You can reaload them if you desire. Many of the cheap brand disposable cameras are reloaded disposables. You have to load them in the dark because the film is loaded unwound and winds back into the cannister, and you have to reset the counter. It's a bit of mucking around but can be done easy enough. As stated above the waterproof ones will no longer be waterproof once the seals are broken.

I have to say though, it's easier to just use a 35mm P&S, & you get them for free these days!

The Rollei b+w disposable camera from freestyle photo reloads in daylight with
tri-x quite easily. pop it apart on each side, insert film on feed side, reset counter to beginning, close, disengage gear cog on front, wind with screwdriver on to spindle, shoot. flash battery is replacable as well.

when my brother hiked the appalachian trail ( the first time )
he got a disposable camera and we bulk loaded a ton of film together.
the camera comes out of the box, and the film loads like a cheep plastic camera.

fuji used to recycle the cameras labs used to save them and send them all to fuji to be reloaded with film at their north carolina plant. now that the nc plant is ( or will soon be ) closed i wonder where all those camera carcasses go ...
