Hi everyone,

Can anyone recommend any detailed books or guides for retouching B&W prints (eventually RA-4 as well)? I would like to have the ability to remove temporary skin issues, like a pimple, rather than full on airbrushing. Not sure if this exists, as the only thing I can find is retouching a transparency (which I prefer to avoid if possible) or just spotting (can you spot a pimple?).

I know my portrait and lighting technique has the biggest influence and I will try to control those as best as I am able to but sometimes your options are limited.

Older books like The Complete Art of Printing and Enlarging, Otto Croy, and similar. Retouching B&W prints is actually not difficult. The mistake is to try and make the corrections quickly, it's more about making it something no longer noticeable. RA-4 retouching isn't difficult either. HAving made those statements I used to do a lot of hand coloring using toners including dye toners selectively, and then finally colouring with dyes.
