Does a anyone know of a source for the thick (probably 1/4") rubber mat that the Saunders V-Track easels use? It's quite grippy, and doesn't compress too much, considering the weight of those easels.

What about using instead of a whole mat strips of isolating foam rubber?

I saw a 'grippy' mat about 3/32" thick and 2' long for sale at Home Depot last week that is used in wood working and tool chests.

Maybe $5 or so--that and double stick tape ...

My wife's a yoga teacher. Yoga mat material is handy as heck - the cheap mats are about 1/4" thick. Some places on-line used to sell it by the foot (she once bought 60 feet of it…)

I use this sort of stuff without the tape, just by placing on the surface that the easel rests on.

I found a solution for your problem. My girlfriend found MIV [France] Non-Stick Silicone Baking Liners for $15US at Costco [higher in cooking supply stores like Sur La Table]. Unlike cooking stores which will sell one for $15-20US each, this package has three silicon sheets:
  • two 29.5 cm x 41.9 cm / 11.62" x 16.5"
  • one 22.8 cm x 30.4 cm / 9" x 12"
