replacement for 8x10 tx?

having just exhausted my stash of tri-x, i come to discover that tx 8x10 is now available only in 10-sheet boxes, and at $5 a sheet at that ..... does anyone have a suggestion for a suitable replacement? i'd particularly be interested in hearing from those who have left tri-x sheet film behind for an alternative they like .... thanks (and my apologies if my search of the forums missed a previous discussion on this)

I don't think there's another 400-speed film like it being produced currently, so when I run out of TXP 8x10", I'll just bite the bullet and buy more of it and shoot carefully.

Among slower films FP4+ and Efke PL100 have a compatible look.

I dont' shoot much LF, but I think Ilford Hp5 is available in boxes of 25 sheets of 8x10. Might be as close a match as you can find.

I'm in the same situation, though fortunately I still have one 50 sheet box left. I'm thinking either HP-5+ or Freestyle.eduUltra 200 (Fomapan 200) might work as substitutes and a substitute I'll definately need. A single project for me will take anywhere from 40-70 sheets of film--thats 4-7 boxes likely from different runs and 4-7 'spensive cardboard boxes I'd be paying for rather than one or two. I wish I could send my empty 50 sheet boxes in to Kodak for a "fill up" but thats not likely

Kodak isn't the only game in town---though sometimes (like now) they sure act like they are

I've found Tri-X and HP5+ to be nearly indistinguishable. HP5+ seems to have a slightly shorter straight line section, but in terms of overall tonality, sharpness and grain structure you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.

hp5 is what i expected i'd have to move to, tho having lived with tx for 20+ years, i am reluctant to give it up, even at its exhorbitant $5/sheet price .... i see that arentz has an sbr chart for hp5 in d76, so that gives me a starting point

by the way, i realized yesterday that i was already being affected by my evil master kodak when i set up to make an image and found myself asking myself if it was worth $5 or $10 just to see how it would look on film ........ making just one neg is usually good enuf for me, but for images i really want i am in the habit of making a backup neg in case of screwups (you know -- light leak, wind, bugs, dust, forgetting to stop down, kicking the tripod, mixing up hypo and hypo clear, etc)
