There is very little practical reason for them to keep increasing the sensor area. Even with the current 102MP chip Fuji and Hasselblad are using, they're already deep into the diminishing returns category, because the curves of utility and cost diverge wildly.
The cost of a chip is a reflection of a wafer yield, and it grows geometrically with the chip area. Meanwhile, resolution grows at a slower rate, and the use cases for higher resolutions begin to shrink rapidly above 50MP, eventually leaving you with pixel peeping or aggressive cropping. So I am not surprised that Phase One left the professional photog market and their focus now is on archiving, aerial, space, and software. The cost/benefit ratio of their equipment is not acceptable for photographers, even professional photographers. I won't blame Hasselblad for not following them.
