In a lot I got at an auction some time ago I found an old brass lens that I'm i doubt whether to have repaired (where and how) or not.

The lens is a Goerz Doppel.Anastigmat Serie no 3 with a focal length of 270mm
It has a serial of 53178.

The aperture is stuck and some of the blades are broken.
Apart from that it is in reasonably good condition (one scratch and some internal dust).

Is it worth the trouble and expense of getting it fixed?
Advice is welcome.

Thanks

Repair.:D
If it is in an old Ilex dial set shutter (it looks like there is a little fellow with a moustache peering over the top of the lens) then have it re-shuttered.

There is no shutter.
Getting some kind of shutter would be part of the repair.

I guess it's a Berlin made Goerz lens pre the Dagor name. You'd need to find a Compound or Dial set Compur shutter that it'll fit and they weren't stanadard back in the early days.

It was probably never sold in a shutter and repair would be more than the cost of buying another in good condition, unless you can DIY.

Rip the blades out and shoot it WFO, it may surprise you. I have an old lens thats so sharp it could cut butter, no aperture blades, gives dreamy shots that I enjoy to no end.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will start with asking my usual repair guy about the blades when he is back from his holiday and have them removed if I can't get them repaired.
I have done some business with SKGrimes and am very pleased with them. As stated above however the cost of sending the lens back and forth, a new shutter and work the price will be high.

I will start with a hat and some long exposures and think about adding a shutter later.

Thanks.
