I set up to print this early AM and discovered my enlarger timer failed to turn on. I believe I left it on 24 hours from the previous DR session. Its plugged into the outlet the clothes washer draws power from. The washer was operated yesterday. I checked the fuse and of course its good.
The ET-500 is my favorite timer and they are pricy. Anyone know if they are repairable and what the likely trouble is. I assume a power surge was the culprit.
Typically, this kind of equipment can often be repaired by anyone with a working knowledge of electronics and some basic equipment. You may try to find someone nearby on e.g. Craigslist etc. HAM radio enthusiasts are always a good bunch to fall back on as they often enjoy a nice puzzle and most of them have the knowledge (and then some) required to work on something like this.
If I had been any closer to you, I would have gladly taken a look at it, but shipping the timer to another continent may be a little over the top.
Funny, I had contacted a HAM group member who I have morning coffee with. Many of the amateur radio guys got their start as Air Force techs operating or repairing com or radar equipment.
I’m using a process gralab clock face unit and feel like I’m Edward Weston.
I checked around the local area for electronic repairs. Cell phone repair techs one source. No luck
Korak provided the answer. Last night I attended an Amateur Radio (HAM) group meeting. A member was able to trouble shoot and repair a solder break.
We live in a throw-a-way society. An independent repair tech can’t make a living today. HAMs were often the kid who had to take things apart to see how they worked.
