Removing Nikon FE2 Shutter release button

I got a hold of a soft release shutter release button and wanted to switch out the original one. Looks like it should just unscrew, but sure it on there hard. Any advice?

If i am getting what you're trying to do correctly, to change the whole button you will have to remove the top plate, that includes all the controls on the top.

Or you are speaking of there is already a screw on soft release on the current one? But you have a replacement?

Advise? Don't! You can unscrew it but you will not be able to refix it without removing the top. Things aren't as easy as you hope they are.

Most soft release buttons screw on *top* of the existing button...

The Nikon AS1 soft shutter release screws over the existing button, and other ones usually screw into the Compur thread on the shutter release button Don't attempt to remove the original release button.

The FE2 and FM2 don't have the threads for the old Leica type cable releases.
If the old soft touch is tight, someone may have used a thread locking compound on it.
Grasp the black portion with needle nose pliers and then unscrew the old soft touch.
tape around the release button should keep it from being scratched.

I think what you have here is a soft-touch made for a Nikon F/F2 that uses the old Leica style system.

You need a different soft-touch button for the FM2/FE2/F3 and later cameras that screws into the hole for the cable release.

As others have pointed out - you do not remove the camera's shutter release.

You're all right. It does not remove. The shutter release I have is only for a Nikon F.

You now have two options.

1) get a standard cable release. Easy!

2) try to find the adapter for the Nikon/Leica release to a standard release. Could be a quest though. )
