Remote cord for Hasselblad 553

I tried to sell this on ebay but had no bids. It's free to a good home. You must already own a Hasselblad ELX/553/555 to get it.

It's a remote cord. Button on one end, plugs into the blad at the other end. You must pull out the trigger on the camera on the camera to plug it in... did you know they pull straight out?

The cord part is about 15 feet long. Like new.

I bet it will (i'm sure it will) work on all EL(...) models, so if you don't have an ELX, but any of the other EL(...) models, this could be what you are looking for.

And if you didn't know that the release button comes out: read a manual.

Rob is a very generous person indeed. He sent me one of these earlier, which is great and works like a champ.

BTW - the earlier models (500 series) I believe used a DIN 5 connector. The 553 uses a DIN 6 connector.

They all use the same 5 pin connector, old(est) and new(est) alike.

OK - we are both right.

My 553 body has a DIN 6 connector on it.

However, the cable release that Rob sent me has 5 pins. It is actually the same configuration as a DIN 6 but is missing the middle pin. It's not a DIN 5 connector though. (I made that mistake when ordering a DIN 5 connector to try to make an adapter.)

So, in conclusion, the 553 takes a 5 pin release cable and I'm confused.

Yes, you're right. The socket has 6 holes, but the center one has nothing connected to it (not even metal clips to connect a pin on a plug to a terminal on the rear of the thing.
So it's a 5 pin connector, posing as a 6 pin one.


Not a 5 pin connector, with the pins arranged as the 5 on dice, yes.

This one has a different end... like a small headphone plug.... it goes in the same hole as the button you use to fire the camera now.

Hasselblad provided two types of cords, that were called SK and FK; easily remembered as Side connector and Front connector.
The cords with the DIN-plug are for the side, the one with the jack plug in the front.
Hasselblad EL cameras have two holes for release buttons on the front: one occupied by the release button the other one free. So you could leave the button in and use the other for an FK cable.
Only when the cameras were supplied with the - not so good - bigger, square release button, you wouldn't see the two plug holes, and you needed to remove the release plate to be able to use an FK cable.

The ELD still has the same two holes on the front, but only one can be used to trigger the camers, the other being wired to trigger the camera when there's a digital back on it.
