I want to use sodium dithionite for second developer when doing reversal.

I might try to get it in pure form, but Iron Out is mentioned as a readily available source. I can't find Iron Out in Norway, but I find Remol (http://www.herdins.se/sv/ovrig-textilvard/remol__102) in the hardware store. It's for cleaning staines off textiles.
It contains:
Sodium dithionite 60-100%
Sodium carbonate 1-5%
Hexamine 0,1-0,5%

I tried it on a few pieces of unexposed Fomapan 100 classic film, but it seemed I had to use quite a lot to have an effect. (I know that Fomapan will probably have low dmax, anyway...) The part of the leader that had been exposed to light came out darker than the rest of the piece.

I will test some more, but first I want to ask if you think the 2 added chemicals may counteract the fogging action of the dithionite?

Sodium dithionite is also called sodium hydrosulfite.

The product that you specify should work. Since it already contains sodium carbonate you should reduce the amount of this chemical in the formula. Be careful as dithionite is a powerful fogging agent, clean up any spills of the powder and solution.

Thank you Gerald. You seem to refer to a specific formula that contains the carbonate, which I haven't seen. Where could I find that formula?

My bad I saw the list of chemicals and thought formula. Sorry. Since the commercial product contains other things it is not unusual for more dithionite to be needed.

I use dithionite for precipitate the silver since many years. It works fine and is easy to use. The argentum sulphide (or what it is) form a heavy mud, from which the clear, silverless solution can be decanted. It is not necessary filtering every time.
