This can never be stressed long enough.

Darkroom work is Therapeutic.
Heals. Reconnnects.

Many things:

-Keeps your mind alert and tickles the critical side of thinking, in an intense yet relaxed way.

-Lots of fine motricity involved

- Combine your darkroom sessions with listening to podcasts, audio-books!! Get out of each printing session a little smarter than before. When is the last time you sat by the fire and read a book? Listened c-a-r-e-f-u-l-y to any album from your favorite artists?
Well, the darkroom is your best possible ally in this.

- Learn a new language! Perfect the ones you need perfecting. No jokes, listen to audio courses and repeat loudly, while printing, in the dark.
No jokes my friends. Within a year you will have learned any language of your choice.

- You are standing 2-3-4 hours straight. Very good. Now continue, don’t give up.

- In the end of each session you also end up with beautiful prints as an extra gift for all the above. The prints are almost a by-product of the time you invested in Yourself.

- It’s cheap. Yes! Buy a box of 5x7 250 sheets, cut them in half and you have 500 3.5x5 sheets. Small prints are a beautiful thing, and they make everyone happy. Print and share.

Don’t be silly, start now. ALOHA! NIHAO!

Yes, the slow methodical process is one of the things that still attracts me. Like baking one’s own bread, which I also do, it’s something that can’t be rushed if one wants all the benefits from it.

Oh… I thought this was about Rolleiflexes.

Gives purpose to owning a film camera.

Indeed!

And yet, sometimes I ask myself if all this ownership and dedication is, after all, just a good reason to hide away from society and spend time with myself. What can I do, my Darkroom Batcave owns me more than I own it.

Since I shoot 6x6, I would buy 8x10 and cut into 4 sheets. Each 4x5 so this works for both 6x6 and 4x5.
