Hoping someone can advise- the 300mm Nikkor 300mm M series lens I recently purchased has a registration pin installed. I would like to to keep it so the lens will not rotate on the lens board. My question is whether I should drill a hole for the pin or if one can purchase a pre-drilled Linhof lens board appropriate for this lens? Or perhaps there is a solution that doesn't involve drilling a through hole?

In all my years I have not encountered such a pin, although I am aware they existed.

Just remove the pin. It's easy enough to tighten down the threaded ring on the back to prevent slippage. All my Nikkor M's are mounted that way - (minus pin), all my other lenses too. It may be that certain dedicated systems wanted the lens and shutter markings in a very specific position for sake of standardized control.

Like Drew said, remove the pin. All my LF lenses are mounted sans pin and not one rotates on the board. Years ago, I used to file a small notch in the mounting board to allow for the pin, but had a light leak because the notch was ever so slightly beyond the retaining ring. Took me a bit to figure that one out.
