OK ! So, how about it ?

Peter.... and all ...

Gotta start someplace. How about September 10, in Clare, Michigan ?

If we meet in the middle of the state a couple times this fall, we can meet.. then retreat during the winter. I think Ferndale, maybe a studio tour, would be good in, oh, November or December.

Don

see attached collodian image of the state of michigan for directions

Ok, Clare sounds good to me. The 10th will work out as well. Who else is on board?

For what it's worth i shoot 4x5 B&W only.

Oh, and how may i be of assistance in getting things together for this little gathering?

Joe,
I have been told that at one time (late 19th century) collodian prints were very popular, but have become more obscure.

I could be mis relaying or applying the information I was given.

Peter, I believe that I can make the drive up. However I will come up Friday evening more than likely. So I am gonna find a nice cheap hotel. How about a rec for a good meal and a beer? Also, for what's worth, I will shoot 35mm primarily, but I am planning on bringing my 4x5 (thanks, bobfowler) and perhaps when you or someone else has a little time maybe you could show me a few things.

Aw shucks, Joe. I was just fooling around. I'd like, in a couple years to take on wet plate. But, no.

I guess by spreading the word, and representing the 'up north' contingent !

And we can figure out some details. Know anybody from Clare ?

d

So i don't live up north anymore but i'll probably end up back there when i get fed up with the movies. I'll be back in Cross Village for much of September so maybe i can make it during one of my fishing trips. Peter, I emailed you last year i think about seeing some of your work. I'll be making at least one trip to t.c. while i'm home so maybe we can meet up.

I'll pm you with contact info. I would like to meet you, though i don't think i recall the email. Sorry.

Anyway, as for the rest of you that might be interested in attending a APUG based gathering in Clare Michigan on September 10. How about sending me a PM so i can get a list together. I'll do some research on the area, perhaps even spend a day driving around in the area to get an idea of what there is to offer. I'll share that with all of you shortly.

Pete

Hey Pete!

Here's a good place to start!

RIGHTO !

HAVE A GOOD TRIP.

We can begin with the Clare event, and go from there. I have a good feeling about this.

You western folks will probably have a great APUG thing going before long.

SHOUT OUT FOR OTHERS TO ATTEND

This is a quick note to remind others out there that some of us are planning on getting together in Clare, Michigan on Sept. 10 to meet and shoot.

If you are interested, please PM me and I’ll fill you in on any and all details.

What better way to build a community than to actually meet its members!!

Just a quick note to keep this a fresh post.

Did i mention there may be gifts involved??

Pete

That's right Peter...

EVERYBODY has won, and all must have prizes !

Just a reminder, Sept. 10 in clare Mich. Will be a good time for all, and we might even get some photography in!!

Pete

There will be a prize given for the greatest distance traveled.

Also, an award for the biggest lens.

Not much of prize, really, but a prize all the same.

Hi guys, should I create a "Great Lakes" regional group? If so what states should be included in the description? Thanks!

Sean,
That would be cool.
From the US:
Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and maybe NY, Pennsylvania and Minnesota

Canada would be Ontario

Anyone else have opinions on the subject?

Cool Sean: great ! Use John's territory: the more the merrier.

Add New Zealand if you wish

I did some scouting around Clare today. Came back with information I’ll put together and distribute Tuesday morning.

By the way for the rest of you, there is still time to get involved. At the moment there are about 5 of us, would love to see that number grow.

Pete

Scouted out Calre.

Clare

Places to stay:

There is a small public campground right down town on the north side of Clare. It’s off the main drag which is Mcewan.

The park is named Pettit Park, it’s a city operated deal, with self registration and no attendant on site. There are 16 30’ deep sites with 30 amp electric, and 5 sites with out electric.

The rates are $10 for electric and $7 with no electric.

It’s a first come first serve deal, but after Labor Day I wouldn’t think it’s a problem.

There are modern restrooms, but no showers. There is an extra fee to dump your tanks if you choose to do so.

As far as hotels go, there is a Days Inn (989-802-0144) and a Holiday Inn Express (989-386-1111) both are located on the north end of Clare just off of Bus. 27

In addition there are basically all the major fast food chains in that area as well.

Down town there is a hotel with bar and restaurant named the Doherty Hotel (989-386-3441)

There is a Big Boy located in the area with the fast food joints that might be a good place to meet in the morning of the 10th. And there is a watering hole on the other end of town called Ruckles Pier, bar and grill. The locals thought it was the place to hang out for a drink or two at the end of the day.

For what it’s worth, none of the hotels were expecting any large event in town that weekend, so rooms should be plentiful, but they all recommended booking soon.

I drove around the city of Clare looking for photo opps. Down town is a typical, small northern Michigan town. Some older some newer. The area dates back to the 1870’s or so. There is an Amish population near by, and some historical sites that may be worth looking at. The town it self has an old Railroad house that looked kind of cool. As well there is a small lake in town that might offer some shots.

I have a mass of literature on the area and it’s surroundings we can review in the morning to make some kind of plan.

Questions and comments are welcome, just PM me. I’ll send out more info as it get it together.

And for those of you who may still be on the fence. We sure would love to have you there. So far it looks like;

dfcardwell
ggriffi
peterdendrinos

Would love to add more to that list!

Peter,

I plan on staying at the "Lone Pine Hotel". Here is a link: Dead Link Removed It is on Mc Ewan Street. Will be arriving sometime Friday evening, hopefully before 9pm, depending on what time I get off of work.

I'm working out a plan to bring another couple and their baby as well as my wife. We'll be camping.

The wife of the other couple is a great street photographer and neither her nor I shoot dirt and trees (oops I mean landscapes), but I suspect we'll have fun.
