Wow you got 1000 ft of 65mm film? Jelly…
I’d recommend cutting it to length before slitting for that much film. 100 ft is manageable, barely, 1000 ft? Not so much.

In Europe, it is difficult to get hold of 65mm film. Random short pieces are extremely rare, and their price is higher than that of fresh 120 films. I had found an online store in Germany that supposedly offered 400ft rolls with no minimum quantities. I ordered one, PAID. It turned out that the store was a side business of a production company. Some questions began about why I needed the film, how special it was... after a few weeks of absurdities - they simply refunded my money without explanation. That left only the 1000ft option. With all the stressful messages about stopping free sales, I decided to get a 250D. A little curious - I actually have another 1000ft, but 50D - I managed to get that one quite cheaply (50%) from a failed production of some advertisement. It is frozen at -20C in the bottom of a freezer.
Although the cans are relatively compact for 1000ft, it really does look quite inconvenient. That's why I haven't opened it yet. I wanted to free up a can of 100ft of 70mm film, which happened the other day. I'll wind 100ft and cut from there.

The story I was told by an expat from the UK some years ago was that when travelling down a narrow lane, probably well forested, the custom was to travel on the left side, so as one would have their sword arm free. Which is pretty much what is stated above!

I've heard that many times and was taught it in school. The idea being that most people are right handed, and when riding a horse on the left, one's sword arm was available if an attacker was coming in the opposite direction, or indeed from behind. So perhaps there was originally a reason. Today it's probably marginally cheaper to manufacturer cars for driving on the right, as more countries do this.

However, driving on the left also leaves one's camera hand free
(joking, I do not condone taking photos while driving)

Damn, I’ve wanted both those stocks for a long time, unfortunately can’t afford 1k feet of film. If I had $1.5k or whatever it costs now I’d love to just buy a can. Oh well

Regarding driving on left or right side of the road, this might be helpful.

OLD HABITS DIE HARD!. Look at what they are doing with CINESTILL

What are they doing with Cinestill? I thought this thread was about driving....

Do Reflex Lab respoolers use left-handed or right-handed bulk loaders?

Every bulk loader I have ever used is a PITB for us left handed people.
I wonder if there are any made in the UK which have the crank on the left side?!

My LPL Dayroll has the crank on the left and the frame counter on the right

Spin it around 180 degrees... ;-)

Back on topic (lol)... curious if anyone's notice an actual restriction in the availability of respooled Vision 3 stocks? I'm still awaiting a response from a local stockist of 100ft bulk rolls, but it appears Reflx 800T et. al. is still easy as pie to find.

I have yet to get the nerve to write the guy I know about fresh film… he might be able to get it but I don’t know. If I could get Ektachrome that would be awesome

I can't imagine being left handed in this right handed world. I was trying to thread a machine screw today with my left hand, it's almost like my brain was fighting what I was doing. One of my dearest friends is left handed, mechanical genius. He could always manage to reach the "unreachable" bolt when we were messing around with cars.

In the 1920's in Iowa, dirt (mud) roads, everywhere out of town, no one cared where you drove unless you were competing for the high ground 😆

Candido still seem to be offering their Vision 3 derived film for 35mm cameras, though I note they're currently out of stock they do promise it is "coming soon". Doesn't look like they believe their supply has been cut off.

Sadly I recently had an email from Film Photography Project to the effect that this all means they have to discontinue their respooled Vision 3-derived products for still cameras.

The thing is....in my case at least....it won't make me purchase more proper Kodak-Alaris products because they don't offer a suitable one for the purpose that I use 800T for.

You can contact Frame24 - they are UK distributors. Whenever I have had a question for them, they have responded very quickly. A 400ft box with them is £230 excluding VAT. Unfortunately, they have also changed their terms of sale to the new reality, but they may still decide to sell you one if you convince them that you will not be selling at retail.

It's not normal for everything to be sold out. It's more interesting in the 1000ft section - they're also marked as sold out there, but in a different way.
Before this change, things that were REALLY out of stock were marked on the homepage with an icon. So I guess they're actually available...

Yeah, that's a good point. So maybe they just use the 'sold out' function to bar people from purchasing through the web shop.

Well, too bad they've apparently manage to block this channel as well.

Never realised that we had even one thing in common, Matt🙂Now if only you drove on the correct side of the road you'd fine that operating the gear lever is easier
