Hi,

I am in the middle of writing a proposal, and I need a source for a statistic.

I vaguely remember someone or some source was saying that certain % of images in magazine media is some sort of portrait. It was more than 50% for sure, but cannot remember what the number was. It does not have to be exact, but I want my statement to be factual.

Does anyone knows about a reference/source to this statistic? Any lead would be appreciated. Thanks.

Warmly,
Tsuyoshi

Not to muddy your waters, but an image of a face of a model, isn't really what most people would call a portrait.

In theory a portrait is a depiction of a person that relates the personality or occupation etc of the subject.

I doubt that you'd find that in 50% of the images in the media follow that criteria.

Hi Micheal,

Thanks for your clarification.

Although I agree with your definition in theory, that is not what I mean by "portraiture" here.

I too wish your definition of portraiture is more than 50% of what we see in the print media.

Warmly,
Tsuyoshi

You might see if ASMP has any stats, Tsuyoshi. (http://www.asmp.org/)

Considering the wide range of compositional styles and objectives, I'd suspect the 50% figure might be reasonable only within a defined segment of the overall publications market.

Ralph,

Thanks for the lead. I just called them, but they do not have any stats. I guess I need to contact some magazine association or some sort. Do you happen to know any name?

Thanks again.

Warmly,
Tsuyoshi

I'm not familiar with any magazine -publishing association that would be likely to keep statistics of that sort, either. You might try a couple of the stock-photography houses, as they might keep stats on what sells. A google turns up a long list.
