Now that Kodak P3200 is once again available, I am thinking of starting fresh and trying a new developer. I had been using Ilfotec HC, but I'm sure there are some other developers that provide better image quality with this film at the higher EI ratings (3200+).

I'd like better shadow detail and less contrast than HC provides, if possible.

The only requirement is that the developer be a liquid concentrate rather than a powder.

I think you will get the best speed and shadow detail with t-max developer. I could not see using anything but t-max, unless it is not available to you or something like that.

For what it's worth: If you want more shadow detail and you think the contrast is too high, it may be that you need to expose a little longer and perhaps try developing a little less.

use a highly diluted solvent tipe developer, like x-tol or d-76! i´ve been using this recomendation by anchell and worked for me, at least when i want smaller grain high resolution and better shadow detail!

times will be on the long side but it´s worth it

try 1+5 for 40 minutes 20ºc with x-tol or d-76 and work around that, ilford agitation and 1 liter of working solution

Rui Lourosa

for gritty golf ball grain use d-72 1+1 or dektol (liquid) 1+3 for 6 min at 20ºc
