I've just finished reading 'A Matter of Opinion' by Roger Hicks. The book comprises a selection of his opinion pieces written for Amateur Photographer between approximately 2001 and 2006. Assuming you don't have access to the original magazines, I would highly recommend the book as the author is most entertaining in places and does make some good points, only missing the mark on a couple of occasions.

I found a used copy for a reasonable price online but strongly suspect the book is out-of-print.

What were the majority of his opinions in the book about? Is it like an art critic piece?

I was fortunate to briefly know Roger. I am glad I was given that opportunity, opinions and all.

I have also found his books to be very good though I have not had the opportunity to review this one.

Yes. I didn’t think he liked us very much on APUG.
Roger was a member of this forum, I used to P.M.wiith him quite often,he died recently and his wife Francis Shultz, who was also a photographer, died shortly after.

Actually he was quite friendly and he reached out to help many. There was a problem because some thought he was self promoting [subtitlely advertising] on the forum and that hurt him personally, so rather than fight he left. He always gave me good advice and support.

Roger was very helpful and entertaining when he was here.
He was always self-promoting, but I have no doubt that wasn't different from real life. That is what he needed to be and do, in order to make a living.

LOL... Roger wasn’t a victim... he was more of a lightening rod!
