Hi All,

I am about to start a LF project and was wondering if anyone can recommend any reference books that show how to assemble and disassemble older LF lenses and cameras etc?

Specifically I will be cleaning up some older 'seized up' barrel lenses and mounting some into modified (stretched) polaroid and other modified MF folders.

Also a good source for camera specific tools that sell on the internet? I buy some items from Micro Mark Tools so I am looking for any other firms that ship to Australia.

Thanks

Brendan

Someone posted a link to a great supplier of tools, in another thread on this site, in the last few days. Some very specialist photographic tools were listed.

I can't find the link, I remember going to the site and there were 2 options, US or Europe, and on the European site a PDF catalogue download, which I saved - but not on my home PC's.

I've found free service manuals which can be downloaded for a number of different camera's from 35mm Pentax MX's to various Graflex's, others can be bought quite cheaply.

Kerry Thalmann talked about www.reidsupply.com as a good source at the View Camera conference. They are in Muskegon, Michigan USA. You can browse their catalog (45,000 items) on line or order in on CD or in print. I have the hard copy version here, 1 inch by 7.5 inches by 11 inches. You don’t want to ship that to England. I don’t know if they ship product over seas. Often I find browsing a catalog such as this helpful even if I can’t have the items shipped. It shows you what you need so you can pursue it locally.

Good luck,

I've found "Restoring Classic & Collectible Cameras" by Thomas Tomosy to be of some help. While it also shows small and medium format cameras, there are are a number of good photographs of older cameras, shutters, and lenses disassembled. This book was put out by Amherst Media Publishing in 1998.

Another good place for reference might be the Yahoo group "Camera-fix"
