If you drink it, maybe. Once it goes down the drain, plenty of stuff down there will oxide the pyrocatechol. It'll be virtually harmless and since the volume of film developer discarded is generally far smaller than paper developer anyway, it's even less of a concern.

Just making the point that if you can dump Pyrocat down the drain, you can dump paper developer down the drain.

What do you do with the Pyrocat HD? It's much nastier than any paper developer...

It's my film developer, and it's a damn good one. I stand develop large format b&w

Issue is more so that it oxidizes the pipes, and the day after i poured a used batch down my landlord emailed the building asking folks to "please not use drain cleaner"

Unless your landlord lives in the basement and samples the water daily, I would be inclined to think it was just a coincidence.

And then only if the landlord has some extraordinary sampling and testing equipment.
One of your neighbours probably dumped something else down the drain like drain cleaner or household bleach.

One flush of the toilet would whisk away any developer you poured down the drain. It's nowhere near as caustic as drain-cleaner (sodium hydroxide), anyway. The danger that poses is when it sits in a trap and has a chance to work on the pipe.

Martin Henson has a video on Diafine long lasting developer... on YOUTUBE..worth a look.

Do you reuse Ilfosol 3?

My bad, I meant Ilford Multigrade developer. Ilfosol 3 is, of course, a film developer (No, only use Ilfosol 3 as a one-time film developer and keep the stock in a brown bottle.) Multigrade stock seems to last as well, at least for the time it takes me to use the entire bottle. I've achieved the same longevity results with Ilford PQ Universal.
