Shot last week. 120 FP4 shot with a Pentax 67 with 135 macro. processed in pyrocat 8min 15 sec at 68F.This is a negative scan. I'll print it this weekend on Fomatone and tone in Nelson's.

The background was made using the venetian plaster paint available in HD or Lowes. The prop was found at a local flee market.

Main light was a large beat up Larson umbrella that I got on ebay for about $25. I filled with a strip light that I filtered through a blind. I also uses a strip light to fill the shadow side of the background.
I shot a lot of 8x10 of this model and set as well, so I used a lot of power. Main light was 1800 watts, fill was 400 watts. The umbrella did a remarkable job of wrapping light, so I needed just a little fill on the model.

I'm still editing through the negatives, 13 rolls of 70mm and 18 8x10s. This image kind of rose to the top after an initial edit pass.

beautiful

The subject is beautiful, the body positioning is less than flattering for her but that is my opinion. My suggestion would be to get the subject further away from the background.

Regardless the image is beautiful as is.

I like this shot as visually interesting, both in the setting and the models physical appeal, even though I see some things I might wish were different.

A small dark side hair light might have been in order and I like the way the gate caresses her right breast, runs up to center her torso, just below the neck and frames her face.

Both she and the gate are sinuous and complement each other.

Something I've no seen discussed in adult level photography is, with nude/figure work, especially B&W, the level of anticipation of good shot that comes from erect nipples from female models.

Perhaps it is just me, but I see these as a signal that the model is invested in the shoot, and on some level, fully into the moment of the release of the shutter.

I'm no trying to be pornographic, but any photo of an attractive model, that lacks that level of excitement, takes away from the picture because as a viewer, I do anticipate tension and investment in the moments that each photograph is made, and lacking that, the photo may be no more interesting than a basket of Eggplant.

There are always exceptions, where the subject needs no display such attributes to be found curious, interesting, attractive, involved or other wise raise questions as to the photographers intent at relaying a message or simply capturing beauty, in an unguarded moment, but they are no as frequently presented as middling works of Art or Documentation or Fantasy, IMO.

What do you think?

Right, but I would never have gotten the insight Eli provided on nipple excitement in nude figure photography if not for the restart of this zombie thread. That’s a new one for me!

Like many photographs of models, but especially nude or partially nude, the look on the model's face is of perfect boredom, not a smile to be seen.

Sirius, where you see "bordom" in this photograph, I see an intense scrutiny, but then again, each of us are no required to see the same expression, the same way.

Happy New Years and Godspeed to All!
