Hi
I'm looking for a Sinar F2 front standard to replace my F1 front standard who is broke. It's very difficult to find....but I saw a rear standard for a F2. My question is can I use a rear standard (I'll remove the GG) as a front standard for my Sinar F1?

Best regards

Yes. But not without issues. You can attach bellows or a lens board, or a ground glass to either side of a standard. They're modular that way. And you can easily flip a standard around backwards, as they don't have any keys preventing you from doing this. It's a really flexible system.

However, if you leave it facing the same direction as your rear standard, you're going to the bellows covering up the front swing lock. And if you flip the standard around backwards, you'll have the focus gearing and rise/fall lock on the opposite side of the one on the rear. If you're okay with that, it should work.

OK I see these issues. It's not the best but...maybe. For now, I prefer to wait.

Yeah, the F2 front standards are a little bit more difficult to find. I wanted one for a while to go on my F1, but eventually realized that it probably didn't offer much that I would use other than a more reliable clip. You could also get a P1 or P2 standard. Though they're a good bit heavier and more costly. F1 front standards are plentiful though, if you just want a regular replacement. I think a lot of people with the F and F1 wanted to upgrade to the F2, so that's why you see so few F2 front standards and so many F's and F1's on the used market.

Before I used a rear standard on the front, I'd use either an F or an F1 o
