I have recently purchased a Hasselblad SWC (an old model it is not M but with T star lens). I have shot couple of rolls of films already with this camera, and everything is working normally except that when ever film counts hits 8 or 9 toward the end of 12 the camera makes squeaky sound, when ever I crank to advance the film. Is this usual? If it is not, then where is this sound come from? “ From the camera, or from the magazine?” My friend thinks that this is some thing to do with the magazine and gear has to be replaced. Since I am new to this particular camera I would appreciate if you can give me some advise on what to do with the situation.

Thanks

Thanks. I do not see any problem with the spacing so far. It takes 12 frames with exact intervals of space. It is rather costly to fix in Japan usually USD 350 or so. Can I use is as is without damaging any parts especially the camera?

Hard to say but I wouldn't keep using it till I sorted out exactly what the problem was.
Can you get another back/magazine to try or even buy one?
You will want several backs (for different emulsions) eventually I can almost guarantee it.

Thanks Bruce
So you think it is something to do with the magazine, not the camera?
I will probably send them both for over whole to be sure everything is in good order.
One more thing, if you do not mind. I have a Rolleiflex camera, I am more use to using them than Hasselblad but I just needed something for that wide angle. I feel that SWC’s shutter is very loud compare to Rollei. Is this usual?

I only can compare to a SWC with a prontor shutter, but it is much louder than the Rolleiflexes I have.
It sounds harder/brighter with more ringing.
I guess the front plate cover of the Flex adds some sound insulation to the relatively quiet compur shutter.

Does the sound come when the crank cycle is almost done? or is it squeaky the whole cycle.

This sounds like a problem with the film magazine. Sending the magazine to the US for a CLA would be less expensive. I recommend Samys in Los Angeles on Fairfax, repairs@stevecamera.com in Culver City California, David Odess [look up on the internet], KEH.com, and of course Hasselblad in New Jersey. Plan B would be to buy a used film magazine, but of course the condition of the replacement is always an open issue.

OH...it's in the magazine---it's like the paper in the film or the plastic in the spools makes the noise---I've notieced it when WINDING the film for new rolls or roll ends----very rarely when winding--maybe just some cleaning in there--something binding up on the paper or rubbing too hard...I sometimes get the squeak in my yashica tlr too. I wouldn't worry about it if you hear nothing WITHOUT film in there.

Sorry I did not reply sooner.
The sound is louder at the end of the roll.

Thanks every one. It seems the sounds come from the magazine. I will send it for repair. I am glad that it is not with the camera. By the way how often you recommend having over whole of the camera?
