Re - glueing Nikon FM3a vinyl?

Recently got an anniversary present from the girlfriend - an EX+ condition FM3a from KEH

Shes definitely a keeper!

only issue is a small peel on one part of the vinyl handgrip cover on the camera itself - otherwise its in perfect condition

Glue recommendations? Epoxy? Superglue? JB weld?

neoprene based so that dried excess rubs off with your fingers. holds well.
regular contact cement is solvent based and difficult to work with. latex base contact cement works well but is not available in small quantities.

Worth peeling the vinyl on the outside of the body back a bit to get some more glue contact or should I just get a little under there and tape it down?

Whats the set time like with contact cement?

If it's just a tiny bit that's lifting off I find some double stick tape works well. The fm3a cameras are relatively new cameras and from the factory they covering was applied with some sort of tacky tape as well. You should be able to see it if you peel some more of it back. I'd clean the area with alcohol then scrape off a bit of old tape then apply new tape with a little bit of alcohol to help position. The apply pressure and wait a bit.

I would only peel back enough to get the glue between the vinyl and body. Depending on how curled the piece is you may be able to hold it in place while the glue sets with your fingers.

Pliobond. You want something removable, in case the camera needs to be repaired.

Another vote for Pliobond. Use what the professionals use. It stinks a little at first, however that soon goes away.

One could use some quality double sided adhesive tape. It will work perfectly as long as the pealed off surface is still relatively soft.

Pliobond is good for real leather vs the leatherette as it can really get into the rougher surface of the bottom/back. On leatherette it is already nice and smooth and even on the back, and even the manufacture uses double sided tape. For future repair both are removable, but a taped leatherette is much easier to remove than a pliobonded leatherette. Plus you don't have to put up with the off gassing smelly time as with pliobond.

But you should use a good tape, as cheap tape will slide over time, and not perform well under high humidity/hand sweat and would want to release and get loose. Pliobond doesn't have these draw backs.

News Flash Pliobond is a brand not a glue type. Pliobond makes several types of glues. If those recommending Pliobond and are referring to their contact cement then the Elmer's will be a better choice as it does not have excessive fumes, does not gas out, is easy to clean up any excess , and preforms as well as the Pliobond in all other respects. Its only shortcoming is poor marketing making it not readily available at local stores.
