I use a large LowePro shoulder bag not sure of the number. I usually have 2 extra lenses (50mm and 180mm), an extra back, cable release, lens hood and filters. I really do need another bag because the shoulder bag has been killing my shoulder.

Matt, I like your idea.

The lowepro 1w lens cases fit many RB lenses, up to the 250mm. I use a kodak 35mm bag with all the inserts taken out which JUST fits my RB with the back and the 90mm lens on it. I can stuff a spare back, extension tube 1, filters and film into the pockets of the bag, then can clip two 1w cases with lenses onto the bag strap. It's not unmanageable that way. Of course, what you do with the tripod is another matter....

Thanks - I was wondering about this, because I am in the "lusting" stage for a moderate telephoto.

Not sure about the relative size, but for my Bronica SQ-A, I use a Domke F3, even though it is 35mm oriented. Fits body, two lenses, extra back, film and other stuff. It's tight, minimal and unpadded, but that's the way I like it.

Lowepro Commercial AW MF bag. This is probably the biggest shoulder bag made and it's internal divisions and pockets are sized for medium format cameras. My entire Mamiya RB67 system, 50/127/360 lenses, backs, filters, meter, flash, etc nestles in it as a grab 'n go unit. Boy it is heavy but I change shoulders regularly to prevent lateral curvature of the spine.

The shoulder strap is ergonomically the best. It needs to be because of the weight it transfers to the photographer. After years of use my original shoulder strap popped a seam and Lowepro sent me a new one gratis. Lifetime warranty? Yes!

Pelican 1510 (with wheels). The same size and shape as all those suitcases everybody "carries-on" the airplane.

Camera, 4 lenses, 3 backs, 2 light meters, prism, assorted do-dads and some film.

I also have a 500mm lens, but it has its own case.

(Yes, it's a digital picture ...)

I use a Lowepro Nova 5 shoulder bag I originally bought for hauling around 35mm equipment. It will hold the RB with two of the smaller lenses. I cannot quite imagine carrying much more than that in a shoulder bag - especially with an RB with a prism - I think it is something a physical therapist would warn against...

Just saw Maris's post on carrying a full kit in a shoulder bag: it just shows how tough the Aussies are...

Don't forget the Brits....

http://www.flickr.com/photos/deanwaters/3529909295/

RB67, 50mm, 65mm, 140mm Macro and 250mm, extension tube 1 and 2, Novoflex focussing rail, three backs, Gitzo 1340 (aluminimum not carbon fibre), FLM ballhead, lightmeter, Lee filter system in a Lowepro backback in the Lake District. Keeps me fit, if slightly stooped.....

And a compendium shade, too. Impressive! BTW, are you shooting in the Grampians in that photo?

It was the Howgills, part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, but almost in the Lake District, a lovely area. We walked 15 miles that day, and up quite a few hills. I was a bit sore by the end, and on day 2 cut down the equipment by leaving the 250mm in the hotel, that lost a kilo and a bit.....

I have a Domke F4AF bag that I use for my RB67. The body with 127mm lens and 120 back goes in the large compartment and the 65mm lens and a filter pouch go in the smaller compartment (the bag comes with a single large insert and a two-compartment small insert which I replaced with a similar insert with only one compartment). Light meter and cable releases go in one side pocket, Polaroid back in the other, and 120 film goes in the front compartment. If I had more lenses this bag might not work but for now it is perfect. I definitely recommend the shoulder pad for the weight.

I use an old beige canvas Nikon shoulder bag of the type they used to give away when you bought a new camera in the early 80s. Bag is about 14" long, 8" deep, and 8" wide. With one of its original dividers in the main compartment it accommodates the RB with 50mm lens and film magazine mounted. A 180mm stands on end behind the divider. The bag has two open pouch pockets on the back which will hold an extra film magazine and a small Vivitar flash. the bag's end pockets hold sync cords and batteries for the flash. Makes a very dense and compact package.

I second that bag. Unfortunately, the AW MF version has been discontinued, though they show up on eBay now and again. There's another Commercial AW, and I think it differs in the type and arrangement of supplied velcro-fastening dividers.

Low-cost solution

You're missing a low-cost solution. The cases for the VHS based camcorders that everybody used to have can be found for a few dollars at garage sales and thrift stores. The one that I have is almost a perfect fit for my RB67 with a 140mm lens.

RZ67 Bag

I could never find a good bad for medium format equipment so for many years I have been using the very large canvas tool bags I find in Home Depot or Lowe's.

I keep my lenses in good quality lens cases so they are protected and the bags usually have large numbers of pockets on the inside and outside, and the bags are almost indestructible.

Plus it doesn't scream out "hey look a bag full of expensive camera equipment steal me".

I like to be prepared for most anything, so I bought one of the new battery powered neutron compaction "stealth bags". They are small, as you can see in the first picture (note the AA battery for size comparison), but they are strong. They utilize the latest in neutron compaction technology extracted from the study of collapsed star systems, and can hold an incredible assortment of gear. The second picture shows what I carry in the pocket sized neutron compaction stealth case for a typical photo jaunt around town. Pretty amazing, no?

The only downside to using a case that is, for all purposes, a portable "black hole", is that it can pack lots of gear into a tiny space, but it can't do a thing about the weight of the stuff. Loaded with the gear pictured, my neutron compaction case weighs about 80 lbs. You also have to be careful with your fingers when you pull stuff out of the bag. Small or not though, it does get a bit tiring to tote in mid July heat. Never the less, it is progress. How many bags the size of a CD case allow you to sit at a bar, and whip out a White Lightning X1600 to light up your RZ67 shot? Not many.....
