Pizzatype – Old Italian process of printing on a crust background using tomato sauce with various spices & mozzarella cheese. A good Chianti was used to complete the process.

Some practitioners added pepperoni, mushrooms, onions and other materials for contrast and texture.

It is hard to find examples of this process as they were often consumed by the darkroom help or thrown in the trash the next day by the cleaning lady.

Don't joke, when doing my MA another student scanned or photographed discarded Keebab papers :D

Actually, The Pizzatype is a very satisfying process..even better when fixed with Martini...

The Angustype is more satisfying. Possibly the poorest two processes of all are the McDonaldtype and the Kentukyfriedchickentype :D But if you like square formats nothing beats a Wendytype/

If you want wide format/panoramic then go German frankfurtertype :D

The sad part is I have the Kebab paper wraps in PDF format  alongside my own work . . . . .

I prefer the beerotype, though a lot of people think mine are a little dark, but I don't listen to them...

Darned. I thought it was an Italian version of the Fresson process revealed.

I've found a cold frosted long-neck brew is the appropriate "fixer" for the process. It combines the finish and wash for an extra large pie.

I seem to recall seeing examples of this on some early SNL skits when Father Sarducci displayed such a print and asked people to "Find the Pope in the pizza".

Best,

Bob

I found Pizzatypes non- archival unless toned in Parmasenium.

I believe they should never be archival--always fleeting and ever changing. At best, they should only last until breakfast the next day, then disposed of properly, cold accompanied by a large Vernors Ginger Ale.

My interest in Pizzatypes is all-consuming.

Don't forget the ancient Japanese art, Sushi-type! Best developed with Sake and fixed with green tea. Must use freshest material for best result.

I just discovered the process Phonographotype! The photographs when made using fiber based type paper curl up like widing a phonograph so they make music when uncurled

Ah, but for some of us, too much of the mozzarella additive can have a fixative effect.

Well you know, old slang for an LP was Licorice Pizza.

I have tried this process but find the high acid content burns the heart of my print when used too much. It can be remedied however with an acid reducer which usually brings smiles after completion..............

Dont forget the Calzonitype, its interactive. You never really know what your Calzonitype actually looks like until it is opened and then alas...it disappears. Plus as it is exposed, maybe double exposed, the image shifts. A truly ethereal subject. For those on the Eastern Shore, a hybrid is spotted in the Nicolabolatype...very rare to see one last more than 10 minutes after development. I've tried fixing them with iced tea, beer, gin, margaritas, root beer. It seems to last longer if you pre-fix with beer and order, i mean develop, three at a time. :D
