Rapid Fixers and Bromoil

I know that sodium thiosulphate is the specified fixer for matrices, and I ordered a kilo last week. Unfortunately the chemistry maven is only in once a fortnight and I missed him.

With a 4 day break coming up I had hoped to attempt a few bromoils, but I have only Ilford Rapid Fixer on hand.

I'm using Ilford FB Warmtone, which has produced OK results with sodium thiosulphate fixing. I'd appreciate any prognoses of the likely results of using the Rapid Fixer.

The first time I tried bromoil, I had fixed the prints with Ilford Rapid Fix. I had one hell of a time inking them up. The next batch I inked up went so much better because I used just plain old hypo crystals. Check out this link

I remember that thread. I think, when it comes to trying any type of fixer other than the plain old hypo crystals, the consensus was, "Don't bother."

Bromoil is a multi-stepped process before you get to the fun part - the inking. It's horrible to realize at that stage that things are inherently wrong with the matrix, so take the time before you start to have all the right supplies on hand! I've had to toss several myself along the way, and know the pain.
