Politics on RFF is like digital on APUG, and just as off topic, if not more so.

Roger Hicks says that everything is politics. He's my favorite RFF mentor.

I wonder if Roger includes a link to his website in his posts there:devil:?

In the past I enjoyed Roger's posts too.

Its a helpful site, unfortunately the `regulars' are a very thin skinned bunch.Like the new white screen though.

Personally, I'll take the heavy moderation on RFF to a lightly moderated forum any day of the week.

It happens on APUG too. Try starting a thread on digital cameras and see what happens.

Jim B.

Gee, Have you ever read the mission statement?
Here's the very first sentence:APUG.ORG is an international community of like minded individuals devoted to traditional (non-digital) photographic processes

Well you know how those RFF guys are always going on about how they have to cover the red dot and the name Leica on their cameras. Well now they have covered up the entire website with a white sheet. Just so no one will steal it ya know :whistling:

Hey Pix!!! Izzat you?

RFF: I've had posts deleted with no explanation. Don't discuss a)America b) Leica c)SLR's ;D and you're in safe territory IMO. The people there are more than helpful on film, camera knowledge, etc, etc tho

Come on Jan, you know people discuss these topics all the time on RFF. It is pretty rare that threads or posts get deleted, but it does happen - I think few are because of disagreement about Leicas and SLRs. Most are probably political threads where there tends to be a lot of USA bashing; that sometimes draws America defenders and it goes downhill from there. I am sure Canada/France/China/Norway bashing posts would draw a like response.

Also, the only OWS posts I saw deleted were ones that degraded into fairly nasty political debates or overt recruiting for the movement. Photos of OWS were not deleted for being there, AFAIK. (Note that I don't visit the site all that often, so I'm sure I miss a lot of "excitement".) Any posts I had deleted came with no explanation, but those modified did have a reason - even if it was irrational!

RFF has a lot of friendly members with a tons of knowledge they are willing to share (like you of course, Jan!), but some topics get out of hand.

Haha! I used to look forward to your great self portraits ! But I'll pass on any recent ones, thank you.

Still as of Saturday night I get only a blank white screen, and I'm a member. No notifications of any kind.

Hope RFF is not going the way of Plus-X.

Did a topic get over developed?

Not to sure I agree about Leica. In the past, RFF has been criticized for being way too Leica-centrict. Jim B.

Jim, discussion can cover the 'cons' as well as the 'pros' of Leica cameras. Just ask why everyone obsesses about over priced German Leica rangefinders when a Canonet G III QL17 can take images virtually indistinguishable from a Leica. Better still state flat out that a Noctilux isn't worth the money.... ;D

BTW : I'm smiling about this because this is what RFF threads are usually like. I'm not seeing much difference between the two places actually.

It's probably Frank G. or one of the brilliant minds over on flickr, I Shoot Film/Unsensored. Pretty sure Lord Hicks is FrankG. Basa Juana says he's Richards son. Probably is. The resemblence is strong.

Thanks for that link GB, I was able to see many of Richard's fabulous self portraits in one of Basa Juana's galleries. I am glad his son, if that is who he is, has maintained them - he was an extremely talented person.

Hi Chris, I recall clearly the announcement of Richard's passing. So you can understand my bewilderment when I saw "pixtu" on line at apug discussing RFF mods and photographers. How many people would use that name and also know people like Roger... ??

...[RFF] were also having some issues with something about 1-2 months ago where the whole site got unbearably slow. They blamed it on Tapatalk and/or the listing of sub forums on the left side of the webpage. So both of those were removed, and yet the problems didn't end.... I'm sure whatever is going on is related to that...

Other than that RFF is poorly designed technically, I have never understood why APUG and LUF and numerous other sites could run Tapatalk successfully, but RFF just couldn't seem to figure it out or manage it. Removing Tapatalk has caused me to browse RFF much less than in the past.

...While I do like RFF in general and think the people are pretty cool there, there can be some issues with mods, thread topics, and other things, but isn't that true for any forum?

No public forum is ideal, I agree. And I do like RFF a lot, so I hope the site comes back to run smoothly... and with Tapatalk functioning

For me it switched from delivering blank or mysql error pages to "server inaccessible" an hour or two ago - which rather looks as if somebody was working on the issue. Nonetheless, it might take another day or so. If they need ISP admin support beyond reloading a backup, they probably will have to wait until next work day - if they had a service level agreement for setting them up again on a Sunday they would not have been down for two days to start with...

All that dieing thing was a PITA, but I'm feeling much better now.

Have I died? Is APUG heaven or hell? And is the only personal indication of death that RFF turns blank and you are thrown into some other forum?
