Rangefinder help

Not a camera, but rather the accesory.

Some time ago, I picked up an Askania Rangefinder (not the model 33), that while a bit quirky, I like. Recently, it suffered a feline-induced newtonian event (cat knocked it off the table). It is not only no longer calibrated, it rattles.

I'd like to attempt to repair it, but at the moment, I'm completely stumped as to how to disassemble it.



It has what looks like small metal studs where you would expect screws to be-- but they resist being pushed or otherwise interfered with.

Anyone disassembled something like this before?

Reassembled - no. Well, yes... but never in a way that fixed the problem.

I did look under the spring on the bottom, but there's nothing there.

With the rangefinder on wood blocks leaving a gap in the center use a pin punch or similar and a mallet tap the center pin out from the viewing side. The end pins may have to be driven in also. The pins are closest to the gap at the base of the rangefinder.

That makes sense. I hadn't realized the "stud" on the viewing side lines up perfectly with the same stud on the other side, suggesting it's a pin. The ends, however, don't line up, so I'm guessing they don't need to be removed to open the case. They made need to be removed to work on components inside, however.

General knowledge of assembly of the era. The pins may have to be driven in then pulled out once the base is free of the top case. The components short of the dial on top are likely mounted on the base.
