The video shows a mistake in use, I do believe. In order to make a proper trigonometric calculation the measuring point must be the same. After measuring the base of the pole, the user must tilt the phone upward on its horizontal axis, without translating it upward as the user does. Besides, I very much doubt the pole is 5 metres high!
