Rangefinder Alternative/B&W contest finalist

I received the email yesterday that my photo, Ficus, Recoleta, has been selected as a finalist in the Rangefinder magazine Alternative/B&W photo contest. It is a 5x7 inch palladium print from an in-camera negative. You can see the image at

Thanks Derek - I'm very tickled by the announcement - I had almost forgotten about it because I submitted a long time ago. I'm now on pins and needles for the April issue to be published to find out who the winners are.

Took some searching on their site (scroll thru new entries list); but found it. The Palladium gives a very nice warm-tone image.

Yeah- a scan is just a pseudo representation of the real thing - it's a GOOD scan, as close a match to the original as I can get, but that doesn't convey the texture of the paper and the way it looks when you hold it at an oblique angle. The big downside to this competition is that it won't have a real-world show of actual prints. But it's major visibility, so I'm not going to complain

I sometimes forget that people don't necessarily know my real name because I've been on here so long, I kinda figure everyone knows who I am by now.

I need to get myself down to Glen Echo when there are some of you regulars that can show me around.
I've seen that photoworks facility go through several iterations with this most recent version looking pretty good.
I remember when it was in that building down the hill in that gully near the Crystal Pool entrance.

I haven't seen this newest set up yet.

That's fantastic, Scott! Congratulations to you. I love the angle you've photographed from, it looks as though the ficus tree is reaching out to the viewer. Beautifully done.
