Can anyone describe the new Ralph Eugene Meatyard hardcover book for me? I'm not very familiar with his work (though I've found a little on Google), and all the copies of this book that I've seen are shrinkwrapped. So I can't browse through it. Does anyone have it? Thanks.

I have it, and I think it's a pretty definitive look at his work. I had always wanted to study his work at length, and I finally can. The reproductions are very good. It's big, there's lots to see, and the essays are short and concise, get into his working methods without too much arty farty blather that seems to pervade so many books.

I'd recomend it if you like his work

Suzanne, where in the world am I to go to my minimum daily requirement of artsy-fartsy? Will any old digital site suffice?

Suzanne: Thanks for the micro-review. It's a book I'd like to have. My dad went to high school with Gene, but I never knew about him until I saw his work in a very old issue of Aperture. I've loved his work ever since I first saw it.

In many ways he's a very intriguing and inspirng photographer. With a minimal amount of gear, and despite the fact that he made his living in a different field, he produced an incredible amount of work. He always had about twelve projects going, things like zen twigs, Lucybelle Crater, romances (the book's title, not his), etc... Great working methods. (You hit the wall on one project, you'll have plenty more to work on!)

Get the book! You won't regret it! I think Amazon had some good prices, too.

I broke down and bought the book, and I think I'll enjoy it. Thanks.
