Has anyone used these before? I came across some posting somewhere that said the rubber grips need to be removed before installing the quick focus knob. Any truth to this?

I would not advise that !! I have them on a couple of C-lenses--they are nice but not that big a deal to bugger up the newer lenses like a CFi--Actually there are likely different versions for diff. lens types--I use a split image screen and that is my biggest improvement--
Which lens are you wanting to put it on? Mine is on my 120 C--my 150 and 180 are CFi models and I would never bugger up the rubber just to use that handle contraption !!

I have the 80mm and 150mm CF lenses. So it is true that the rubber grips need to be removed before you can put it on? Forget it then!

I use a quick focus accessory for my Mamiya 645 equipment. I have seen the Hasselblad version, and have in fact tried to see if it might fit on my 70mm Mamiya leaf shutter lens (which won't accept the Mamiya accessory, as its barrel is too large).

The Mamiya accessory clamps on to the rubber grip area on the Mamiya lenses. IIRC, the Hasselblad accessory works in a similar way.

I can see the potential for the Mamiya accessory causing wear to the rubber grip on my lenses, but that doesn't particularly concern me. The accessory aids me greatly in the use of my lenses. I think it worthwhile, even if it means that it may either decrease the resale value of the lens, or require a repair to the grip, at some time in the future.

I would suggest you try the Hasselblad accessory without removing the rubberized grip. If it works, and it aids your photography, than that's great. If it doesn't work, you can probably re-sell it. If it requires removal of the rubberized grip, than I would hesitate, unless you can find someone who will either lend or rent such a lens, so you can determine for yourself whether the accessory aids you in your use of the lens, and whether you are able to make good use of the lens without the accessory, and without the rubberized grip as well.

Have never found the need for these things as I can focus quicker without them. I found they just got in the way. 80C and 150 CF.

There is one of these grips up on eBay right now (sorry, don't have the link - cannot access from work). From the photo it does not appear that you need to remove the rubber ring. There seems to be plenty of clearance for the clamp to go over the ring before tightening down.

I shoot a 60Cf and would not do so without the fast focusing knob. The travel is pretty far and the dampening of the lens is not really conducive to fast focusing with your fingers. You simply slip off the existing ring and put the fast ring on and tighten the screw. No big deal...works great.

That's great Wayne but do you know which ring fits for the orig. posters application--I know there is a #1 so I assume theres a #2 and ??? I have one myself (?? which number) and it only fits my C-lenses--not my CFi versions!! I have one mounted on a 120 mm C T*
